About The Gatehouse
The Gatehouse Garden is formed of three sections;
Courtyard Garden; An Ornamental gateway with oak double doors leads into a stone courtyard with a trained vine going from wall to wall. The courtyard also included trimmed cubed Portuguese Laurel hedge, Bay ball and potted shrubs.
The Lower ‘Hidden’ Garden; Triangular in shape bordered with a long castellated Yew hedge (which I created) and the tall Shipton Court boundary. There is further topiary with Box balls and a cubed Yew with a Turkey perched on top! Also includes a herbaceous border, Willow dome, water feature, rose arbor, patio area and a lawn.
Mulberry Lawn; The most formal part of the Gatehouse garden containing two beautiful historic Mulberry trees. Several local heritage espalier fruit trees and a Yew hedge have been added. The lawn is bordered by multiple domed mature Yew topiary and a long herbaceous border which includes a large fan trained Pyracantha and Quince tree. The Mulberry lawn offers a lovely elevated view over the Rose Garden and views of the Jacobean Shipton Court.
