About The Motte
Well stocked with around 2,000 different plants and includes quite a number of unusual plants, shrubs and trees.
The front garden contains a themed colour border where yellows, oranges and blues predominate which then flows into other plant-filled beds.
The top half of the rear garden is partly walled providing a somewhat sheltered environment for slightly tender perennials. A curved oak pergola leads through the wall to the lower garden where the woodland beds are full of interest particularly in the Spring when the rhododendrons, azaleas, camellias, bulbs and woodland plants are at their peak. There is a wildlife-friendly pond, orchids and a damp garden featuring flowering candelabra primulas.
A curved yew hedge conceals an exotic garden which comes into its own in the Summer and includes bananas, ensetes, cannas, gingers and dahlias.
A raised bed contains alpines, orchids and other unusual plants and bulbs. Troughs and pots filled with alpines, palms, grasses, succulents and sempervivums. There is a plant-filled conservatory with a small indoor pond containing a blue flowered water lily. Fruit and vegetable plot with raised beds and a fruit cage.
Teas, coffees and home-made cakes by prior request.
