Winchester House

A one acre family garden developed over 20 years, divided into two areas by an original Victorian wall, which formed part of Abbey Manor grounds. Formal planting surrounds the house with a landscaped wood beyond the wall. A wide variety of shrubs, perennials, native and ornamental trees are on display designed around two ponds, a stream and a striking tiered water feature.

About Winchester House

Hostas, agapanthus and tree lilies in pots bring the formal garden to life around circular lawns and a brick tiered water feature.
Beyond the Victorian wall, grass paths lead to two ponds, linked by a stream. This woodland has established native and ornamental trees, colourful borders and a prairie bed. A large variety of shrubs and perennials give colour throughout the year : snowdrops, hellebores and primulas in the early spring: hardy geraniums, brunnera, irises, hostas, heucheras, foxgloves, sedums and other perennials for late spring and summer colour.
Alongside the soft fruit area, which bursts with raspberries, blackcurrants, rhubarb and gooseberries, is an elegant greenhouse for overwintering tender plants and growing tomatoes and cucumbers in the summer months
The bottom pond is surrounded by gunnera, astilbe, hostas and arum lilies and a floating duckhouse creates a home for visiting ducks each year. A summer house and deck over the stream create an ideal spot to watch the pond wildlife.
Engaging sculptures can be found throughout the garden, along with a gnome walk for children and adults to enjoy.
