About Yew Tree Barn
The garden is accessed along a gravelled driveway which is bordered by a spinney and a centuries-old natural pond home to fish, ducks and moorhens. Herbaceous perennials are a particular favourite, and from what was a paddock, two 60ft borders have been created. A lawned path between the borders leads from a courtyard to the summer house. The courtyard was previously a concrete farmyard which has been landscaped using mainly reclaimed or recycled materials, in a formal style with yew topiary and prunus serrula to contrast with the informality of the adjoining herbaceous borders. Running the length of the courtyard is a 500-yr-old oak framed, open fronted cowshed. Alongside the many old, original trees in excess of 50 new trees have been planted together with a wide variety of shrubs. Adjacent to the herbaceous borders is an avenue of field maples planted to create cool and shady conditions to house a large collection of hostas and ferns. A productive vegetable and fruit garden provides produce for the owners for much of the year.
