About Mill End Farmhouse
The south facing garden has been designed to give all year round interest. The main prairie area with repeat planting mixes grasses with perennials under planted with spring bulbs. A woodland area has been developed with the use of landscape elements to create early season impact.
The use of sandstone in patio, linking pathways and in the pond adds interest structure, versatility and accessibility to the garden whilst in harmony with the plants.
The garden was conceived to enhance wildlife and create an environment conducive to balance. All plants are open flowering to support insects and bees, plants are left over winter to support birds.
The development of wild flower meadows complements the garden. This is work in progress, currently around 1 acre is established with traditional English species with another 2.5 acres planned. This has been supplemented with tree planting and hedgerow management
Designed by Julie Toll, one of Hertfordshire’s leading garden designer and winner of 7 RHS Chelsea Gold Medals.
