About White Wynn
A 1½ acre country garden with many mature trees including several conifers, a very large oak and a huge goat willow which shades some of the lawn.
The western half is relatively open and features a 60m mixed border which has colour and character throughout the year. There are also other smaller flower beds and a good-sized lawn. The long walk up the mixed border will take you past a heather bed which gives vibrant winter colour, and then past some raised vegetable beds which always contain something of interest – as well as asparagus there is usually agretti, white beetroot and Hamburg parsley and often a few other less usual vegetables. To the side are ground beds for brassicas, beans and courgettes.
At the southern end of the garden a wildflower meadow is always popular with butterflies and other insects. Next is a secret garden, an ideal place to sit with a drink and a book and enjoy the (usual) peace of the countryside. The planting here shows off some less usual plants, and the beds being raised and therefore better drained than the rest of our heavy clay, allow us to plant some more tender plants. Look out for calla lilies, some hardy palms, alstroemeria and the ghostly white acer.
Further on is a rose arbour with seating and a winding path that will take you past some small beds which are constantly changing. The orchard has many old apple and pear trees.
Another raised area features hardy annuals which are allowed to self-seed.
There are wildlife areas and some shade beds with rhododendrons, aquilegias and hardy geraniums amongst others.
To the front is a smaller garden with gravel areas planted with grasses and self-seeded plants.
