PLANT MCR held a Great British Garden Party fundraiser to support the fantastic work the National Garden Scheme does, bring people together and celebrate the NOMA gardens in the city centre. From planting workshops and garden tours to afternoon tea and live music, the day was filled with classic summer festivities.
As I developed ideas and spoke with friends and neighbours the initiative grew. We invited people to join us for a minimum donation of £5, served unlimited tea and cake, had lots of children’s activities to keep everyone amused and raised over £800.
A live fencing display, a Pimms tent, tea and cake stand and some wigwams and bunting all added to the party atmosphere. After everything we’ve all been through over the past few years, there was a real sense of togetherness, with people of all generations mixing and thoroughly enjoying themselves.
Everyone loved spending time with friends or making new friends, exploring the garden and enjoying the wonderful band that created the perfect atmosphere. To know that we were raising money for such a good cause at the same time was the icing on the cake.
